Whistling DucksAccording to the Audubon book, Black Bellied Whistling Ducks are seen more often perched on logs at the edge of a pond or lake.  These were sitting on a grassy bank at the edge of a drainage pond in Mission, TX.

Whistling DuckThis one waddled to the edge for a quick drink.

Whistling DucksNote how they rest on one leg.  Even with their heads buried in their wings, they maintain balance on one leg.

Whistling DucksThey consistently face in the same direction and there is always at least one look-out duck.

American CootAmerican Coots often feed and flock with ducks, not only Whistling Ducks.  This Coot was the only one evident in this group.
