High
wnd warnings have dominated the television news since last night and
throughout the day. Early this afternoon, we took a drive around
the lake out to the channel to see the high waves predicted on Lake
Michigan.
On the way I stopped to take this picture on White Lake of the beach grasses leaning away from the gale and waves.

A little farther down, a road crew had just arrived to clear this tree draped over the power lines and lying in the road.
At
the end of the channel into White Lake waves from Lake Michigan pounded
the pier heads, which are normally filled with fishermen at this time
of year.
The
north pier is shielded from the full force of the waves by the
south pier. Nonetheless, anyone fishing here would be in drastic
danger of being swept into the lake.
Dune grass bends away from the 40 - 60 mph winds on the Lake Michigan shore near Duck Lake State Park.
Seagulls, facing into the wind, hunker down against force of the blustery weather on a Lake Michigan beach.
Predictions
were that we could expect waves up to eighteen feet. While these,
near the entrance to Duck Lake, aren't nearly that high they are among
the largest I've seen on the lake.
