Hot Dogs & TacosJanuary 31, 2011(Click on Photos to See Larger Images) This
restaurant sits next to the frontage road on U.S. 83 in Mission, TX.
It is just outside the RV park where we stay during the winter.
It's
not the kind of place I would normally frequent, but friends insisted
the food was very good so I went with them for dinner. | It
would be difficult for me to describe the appearance of the
interior with words that would adequately create a visual image
of the place.
The nylon screen immediately to the right of Jim
barely separates diners from the noisy highway and parking lot.
The ambiance is "intense expressway al fresco." To the left
of the waitress, on the wall, is the menu and a window to the cooking area.
| Inside
the dining area at the front of the kitchen is a hand washing station
and a hitch that identifies the establishment as a former concession
trailer. It has been, more or less, permanently
emplaced in its present location.
I ordered the Pirata,
which is ground pork on flour tortillas with a white Mexican cheese.
Served with a Mexican apple soda, they were absolutely delicious. | Jenna
recommended this roadside bistro. She is a native of Illinois who now
teaches elementary school in Hidalgo County and adult English classes
in Mexico. She speaks fluent Spanish and has become very familiar
with the local customs. I'll never again question her choice of
restaurants.
